Outreach

FundsEducational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund are included in one fund, AAUW Funds. The AAUW Fund officers are: Carol Hayes and Ruth Kuzuoka.

Educational Foundation awards scholarships to women in higher education. The Eleanor Roosevelt Fund supports exceptional teachers in grades one through twelve. Seven branches in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties meet as a group called Capitol Counties. A combined program is planned each year with an EF recipient as speaker.

Legal Advocacy Fund supports women who are discriminated against in higher education. AAUW provides financial and emotional support for legal action. The recipients often repay the funds; they are available as speakers to the branches.

Local Scholarship awards three scholarships to women who meet certain criteria at American River College each year. The requirements are that the recipient be head-of-household and have a high grade-point average. Many of the recipients continue their studies at California State University, Sacramento. For information contact Louise Lockhart or Susan Oie.

Tech Trek sends two eighth grade girls to science camp at Stanford University. Teachers are hired. AAUW members volunteer as dorm-mothers and other helpers. The girls are very enthusiastic about their experiences. Tech Trek chair is: Elaine Bemis.

Public Policy supports legislation for education and equity for women and girls. AAUW hires a Legislative Advocate on the state level to work with legislators on bills that AAUW supports. AAUW supports legislation on social issues, such as, education, sex discrimination, civil rights, reproductive choice, affirmative action, Title IX, welfare reform, vocational education, pay equity, family and medical leave, and health care.
